Where Knowledge is Exchanged

  • Underwater Drones

Article written by Mark I. Brodie, President MiB Mediaworks LLC, Robolliance Expert

Once upon a time, we were told that space was the final frontier. Generations inspired by explorers and television shows have led to a world where we now know more about the far side of the moon than the expanses that reach beyond our sandy beaches. Kubrick’s 2001: Space Odyssey was set in space, lightyears from any rolling waves where you’ll only find a hungry, great white shark who won’t show up until the end of the movie.

  • Military-Robots

Article written by Eugene Demaitre, Senior Editor, Robotics Business Review, Robolliance Expert

Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have been used successfully in recent military operations and are in increasingly high demand by U.S. forces. These systems consist of an unmanned aircraft; sensor, communications, or weapons, carried on board the aircraft, collectively referred to as payloads; and ground controls. The U.S. Department of Defense’s need to adopt new UAS technologies has opened the door for two companies that the robotics industry can consider as case studies for new military opportunities.

  • Testing and Evaluating an Autonomous System

Article written by William R Norris, Ph.D., MBA – CEO of iMS2 LLC, Robolliance Expert

A significant aspect of system design involves ensuring, through testing and evaluation of platforms, that requirements and quality standards are satisfied. There are several important benefits derived from platform evaluations. Evaluating systems, subsystems, and components, especially early in the development cycle, achieves two fundamental objectives. The objectives include: 1) determining system performance capabilities, and 2) identifying potential design problems to support timely improvements.

UGVs in Security and Surveillance
Unlike aerial drones or underwater robotics, Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) operate on land and navigate without a human driver. UGVs maneuver on most types of terrain for surveillance and maintenance patrols. When it comes to security, UGVs can be equipped to assist and extend human capabilities to perform what is normally deemed dirty, dull and dangerous, leaving manpower to focus on the greater security risks facing society today.
